  1. Office 365 is cloud-based and can be accessed anywhere.

It works great.  Since it is cloud based, any operating system with a mainstream browser will work with O365.

Yes, these will be available for student use. Lync Online will allow for PC-to-PC communication between students.

No, only the cloud version will be available for use on non-campus owned systems. You can however purchase Microsoft Office at a discounted rate.

All Office 365 accounts have an email quota of 25GB.

Traditional email clients are not used with Office 365 – it is web based.  You access it through a mainstream browser like Internet Explorer, FireFox or Chrome.

Besides these documents that you are reading, Microsoft has provided online documentation.  You are encouraged to explore and discover what is available.

A component of Office 365 called SkyDrive allows you to store and manage your documents in the cloud.  Once you have logged into O365, you will notice a blue menu at the top.  Click on the word “SkyDrive” to view and manage its contents.   Clicking on “+ new document” will present you with a menu of Office 365 file types that can be created.  Saving is automatic, so when you are done, just close your document.  Your documents are available to you from anywhere that you have an internet connection and a web browser.

SkyDrive Pro, the component of storage for Office 365, allows you to keep up to 7 gigabytes of storage or millions of single spaced pages of typed text.

When viewing your files, click on the Files tab in the upper left.  You will see the options available to you.  Generally, click on the file you want to manage then on the option in the ribbon at the top of the window (Delete Document for example).  You can also create folders for management of larger numbers of files.  Just click on “New Folder” near the beginning of the ribbon and give it a name.  Files can then be placed in the folder by clicking and dragging their icon into the folder.    Files can be renamed by selecting them and clicking on “Edit Properties”.

Yes, you can both upload your files to SkyDrive or download them to your USB or other local drives.   The files are compatible with older versions of Office (2007, 2010 and 2013).
